Theta Chi
& Delta Beta at UGA

Theta Chi is one of the oldest men’s collegiate fraternities in North America. Since its founding in 1856, more than 180,000 members have upheld the Fraternity’s ideals, traditions, and brotherhood.

The Delta Beta Chapter was installed at the University of Georgia in 1949 by three Georgia Tech transfers—Robert Brown, Truitt James, and Charles Shepherd. Over the decades, more than 1,200 brothers have been initiated into our chapter. Many have gone on to successful careers in law, business, public service, ministry, and more, grounded in the lessons they learned at UGA and in this chapter.

Our maxim, “Alma Mater First and Theta Chi for Alma Mater,” reminds us that academic achievement and loyalty to UGA come first. Delta Beta exists to help our members have a fulfilling college experience and prepare them for meaningful lives after graduation.

Our Historic House

Built between 1906 and 1908, the Charles Hillyer Brand House is a distinctive example of American Renaissance architecture at the turn of the century, blending Neo-Classical and Roman influences.

Key features of the home include:

  • A sweeping front porch anchored by six Corinthian-style columns

  • A Romeo and Juliet balcony above the front entry

  • A full-length side porch and a historic carriage porch

  • Original fireplace tile surrounds and hand-carved mantles

  • Plaster walls, moldings, and woodwork from the original construction

  • A beautiful curved grand staircase and stained glass greet guests at the front door

More than a historic structure, the Brand House remains a living, active home for the chapter.

Today, nearly 25 brothers enjoy the spacious common areas and 15 bedrooms. The house serves as the heart of chapter life—hosting meetings, brotherhood events, parents’ weekends, and alumni gatherings.

Renovations underway through the Vision 75 Campaign will preserve the historic character of the home while updating systems and spaces to serve future generations.

Chapter Leadership

The Executive Council is elected by the brothers of the chapter each winter and serves one-year terms in their respective positions. These officers guide chapter operations, academics, recruitment, finances, and long-term planning.
